How revoluntionary graphene can change our mobile phone experience?

Flashback:

It was Friday evening in Manchester in 2004, when scientist discovered a unique material called Graphene by a ordinary method using scotch tape. Scientists discovered a small parts of Graphene on scotch tape used to clean graphite stones.

Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov got Nobel prize in 2010 for their simple but groundbreaking experiment on Graphene. Now, hundreds of researchers across the world working on discovering the more properties and usage of Graphene. 

What so unique about Graphene?

It's a first two dimensional crystal ever known, thinnest object ever obtained, world strongest material and lightest too. It's stronger than diamond, and about 300 times stronger than steel. It's good conductor of electricity better than copper, transparent material and bendable. It can take any forms for different usage of different industries. It's usage are in diverse field from aerospace to communication technology.

How it could change the way we use our Mobile Phone?

Samsung and Nokia were amongst the first to recognised the material and carrying the subsequent research to explore the possibilities of using this material in electronics and mobile phones. Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology filed 9 major patents related to Graphene.

Unbreakable, Flexible Touch screens:

Imagine a phone you can drop on the floor and expect it's screen to be intact each and every time. Graphene displays are flexible and unbreakable. 

According to an article published by the American Chemical Society in 2012, "Touch screens made with graphene as their conductive element could be printed on thin plastic instead of glass, so they would be light and flexible, which could make cell phones as thin as piece of paper and foldable enough to slip into a pocket. Also, because of graphene's incredible strength, these cell phones would be nearly unbreakable."

Super charging, flexible batteries:

Batteries are always been the major concern for smartphone buyers. With Graphene, you could just forgot about the battery nightmares. A graphene made battery could charge your smarphone in 20 second? Yes, you heard it right, 20 seconds. Battery can bend, can take any form and can integrate on chip directly.

Faster speed Internet:

Researchers from the universities of Bath and Exeter have claims that graphene could deliver 50-100 times faster internet. The optical response rate of graphene is extremely high, almost 100 times faster than the optical switch currently in use. 

In an analyst conference in 2014, Samsung revealed it's plans to bring the foldable devices to the market by 2016-2017. However, a report by Korean website suggests that foldable tablet by Samsung could arrive as early as by the end of 2015. This tablet will use Graphene technology, it will get folded 2-3 times the screen size. It will be flexible and transparent.

The properties of this material promise a revolution in mobile phone technology, we have to only wait and see how far the claims by researchers transform into reality.
